Three Wall Street firms upgraded VF Corp within a single week, with Piper Sandler and Truist both setting $20 price targets on shares that currently trade around $15.79 — an implied upside of roughly 27 percent.

Anna Andreeva, managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Sandler & Co., on Tuesday upgraded VF to "Overweight," the equivalent of a Buy rating, and raised her target price to $20.00.

Truist sports apparel and footwear analyst Joseph Civello the same day moved VF to "Buy" from "Hold" and lifted his target to $20 from $14.00 — a $6 increase.

J.P. Morgan's Matthew Boss started the sequence last Friday, upgrading to "Neutral" from "Underweight" and setting an $18.00 target.

What is driving the upgrades?

Piper Sandler's proprietary Fall Teen Survey of 9,000 teens indicates Vans ranks as a favorite footwear brand among males, the core of its customer base. September direct-to-consumer foot traffic was the brand's best since February 2023.

Andreeva noted Vans held its No. 7 position after declines in the past three surveys. Nike holds the top spot, followed by Adidas.

Timberland, also in the VF portfolio, broke into the survey's Top Ten favorite athletic footwear brands for upper income teens at No. 10 — "the first time in survey history," Andreeva's report noted.

How does wholesale factor in?

Andreeva wrote that Vans could return to growth as "newness scales across wholesale" into the back half of the current fiscal year and fiscal year 2028.

Truist's Civello tied the case directly to shelf space opening at key accounts.

"We believe that Vans is poised to inflect as fashion trends shift away from the long-dominant athletic aesthetic and brand momentum builds on the popularity of new launches," Civello wrote in a note.

He added that Foot Locker and JD Sports are "likely seeking to fill significant assortment gaps" as Nike pulls back on legacy lifestyle products that are "off-trend." Nike said last week, when it posted first quarter earnings, that its Jordan footwear plan includes a reduction in both volume and frequency of Retro launches.

In Civello's view, Nike's sportswear and Jordan Brand pullback "creates a meaningful opportunity in our view for Vans to take share."

What do the launch metrics show?

Truist's proprietary social media data shows Vans has been the focus of 10 percent of Foot Locker's brand-related Instagram posts since June 2026, up from 1 percent in the second half of 2025 — a tenfold gain.

Sell-through evidence cited by the analysts includes:

  • Pearlized Yacht Club and Harris Tweed launches, now largely sold out.
  • The Souvenir Old Skool 36, which Andreeva noted is "completely sold through at Foot Locker."
  • The Satoshi Nakamoto x Vans Era collaboration, one of the biggest releases at the Oct. 3–4 ComplexCon.
  • Upcoming or recent limited editions with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Neighborhood, Wafflecup Classics, a Vansa collaboration with SZA, and expansion of the Pearlized collection.

Cultural signals tracked by Truist include Olivia Rodrigo wearing more than 10 pairs of Vans — sometimes multiple pairs in a single show — on her Unraveled Tour over the past two weeks, and an Oct. 6 item in After School, the Casey Lewis newsletter with 90,000 subscribers, on growing momentum for Checkered Vans.

Piper's survey also showed Pacsun rising to fourth place among upper income male teens from eighth a year ago, which Andreeva said bodes well for Vans given its skate and streetwear heritage.

What are the risks and the portfolio view?

Civello flagged a possible risk to Timberland from El Niño-related demand issues this year. "In our view, Timberland still has strong momentum from last year's surge in demand and we believe trends should remain solid from a fashion standpoint even if weather dampens demand," he said.

J.P. Morgan's Boss framed the outdoor pillar — The North Face, Timberland and Altra — as targeting "mid-single-digit+ growth" in a sector with a total addressable market projected to grow 6 percent for the next five years. Vans accounts for about 20 percent of VF's operation.

Boss also cited management's Vans strategy of "dropping new, exclusive, unique fabrications [and] designs to create a model of scarcity and heat around the brand for premium product," with sequential wholesale improvement indicated by current order books for Spring 2027 and emerging skate interest from luxury players.

Whether the upgrades hold depends on Vans converting social momentum and shelf-space openings into sustained order growth through the back half and into fiscal 2028.
