Spec notes
- UNIFI launched Cofira dual-function yarn and Resist2O Pro on September 30, 2026.
- Resist2O Pro is fluorine-free and PFOA-free below 5ppb, eliminating topical DWR finishes.
- Cofira is available globally in virgin and REPREVE polyester with GRS, SCS and U-TRUST certifications.
- UNIFI will show both platforms at Performance Days Munich (Oct 13-14, Booth #J18) and Functional Fabric Fair Portland (Oct 26-28, Booth #730).

UNIFI, Inc., the Greensboro, N.C.-based maker of REPREVE, launched two yarn platforms on September 30, 2026: Cofira, a dual-function yarn combining filament and spun characteristics in one construction, and Resist2O Pro, a fluorine-free water-resistant technology engineered for all types of fabric formation.
For sourcing teams, the launches address two recurring cost and compliance pain points: the finishing step for durable water repellency, and the design trade-off between spun-yarn comfort and filament performance.
What does Cofira change at the fabric design stage?
Cofira fuses filament functionality with spun yarn comfort in a single yarn, which UNIFI says enables unique fabric aesthetics and hand feel while supporting integration of the company's existing performance technologies, including A.M.Y., ChillSense, and ReFlexx.
The commercial scope is broad. UNIFI positions Cofira for apparel, furnishings, gear, and accessories, and makes it available globally in both virgin polyester and REPREVE recycled options, including REPREVE Takeback.
Traceability and certification details matter for brands auditing recycled-content claims. REPREVE versions of Cofira are fully traceable via FiberPrint technology and carry U-TRUST, GRS, and SCS recycled-content certifications.
How does Resist2O Pro affect DWR finishing?
Resist2O Pro takes water resistance upstream into the yarn rather than the finish. According to UNIFI, the technology minimizes water absorption without topical treatments or fluorinated chemistry, giving brands and manufacturers freedom to develop water-resistant fabrics across apparel, footwear, furnishings, and industrial applications.
UNIFI lists four confirmed technical features:
- Minimizes water absorption;
- Eliminates the need for traditional topical DWR finishes;
- Uses fluorine-free technology;
- Is PFOA-free, defined as below 5 parts per billion.
The PFOA threshold is relevant for brands managing tightening PFAS restrictions across markets, since it removes a finishing chemistry that increasingly falls under regulatory scrutiny.
What did the company say?
CEO Eddie Ingle framed both launches around multifunctionality and sustainability. "These new products bring true innovative solutions through their multifunctional capabilities," Ingle said, "that help reduce complexities associated with high-performance products. Engineered with recycled materials, these high-performance yarns are both versatile and sustainable."
The claim of reduced complexity is a vendor assertion rather than a measured result; buyers will need to validate performance in their own fabric constructions.
Where can sourcing teams see the yarns?
UNIFI will present Cofira and Resist2O Pro at Performance Days Munich, Booth #J18, on October 13-14, 2026, and at the Functional Fabric Fair, Booth #730, in Portland, Oregon, on October 26-28, 2026. Brands evaluating the platforms can expect first commercial discussions at those shows.
