Brunello Cucinelli opened Casa Cucinelli in Shanghai on Oct. 22, within a global network of 10 Casa spaces.

Carolina Cucinelli, vice president and co-creative director, spent the morning at the WWD x SKP Global Fashion & Beauty Summit in Wuhan, China. She then traveled to Shanghai for the evening opening, opposite Louis Vuitton’s boat-shaped The Louis slow pop-up on Nanjing West Road. The appearance disclosed no order value, store size, sales target or expansion timetable.

What does Casa mean for the business?

Casa operates as a private client space, not a conventional shop. Cucinelli said: “Casa is a private space dedicated to clients, dedicated to the essence of our brand.” The format gives the company time to explain product philosophy and build client relationships during international expansion. The summit disclosed no Casa conversion, membership or revenue data.

Her stated rationale centers on respect for people, land and surrounding communities. That principle extends beyond retail into a company-wide argument for economic unity. She described Chinese clients as buying less but buying better, without providing spending or purchase-frequency data.

How does Solomeo anchor production?

The headquarters and production network sit in Solomeo, a small Italian village. Company design priorities combine material quality, Italian production and colors inspired by the land. Even wine follows a territorial and community-support objective, Cucinelli said. She set longevity as a product goal, framing clothing for years of use rather than seasonal replacement.

For sourcing professionals, however, the presentation supplied no factory names, capacity figures, certification status, unit costs or lead times. The operational questions therefore remain unanswered by the company’s remarks.

What does the digital strategy require?

Work on two platforms began around 2017, separating the corporate story from product sales. An in-house technology team supports that work and is exploring artificial intelligence. Cucinelli described the objective as: “We started to understand what we can do to create, also in the digital moment, to put the human beings in the center.”

Possible applications include tailored storytelling and client-question responses, while an artist contributes to an artisanal interface design. These remain exploratory possibilities; the company disclosed no AI deployment schedule, spending figure or performance metric.

Cucinelli and her sister Camilla do not use AI to design collections. The design team instead travels to understand markets and spot new trends, which Cucinelli said AI cannot yet replicate. That distinction keeps human travel and market observation at the center of product development.

How does the Solomeo school support the workforce?

The company established the school in 2013 to train new artisans. About 60 students attend each year, and they receive salaries while learning. Around 5% later join Brunello Cucinelli, while others find roles with company suppliers. Students arrive from across Italy and sometimes farther afield, with coursework spanning the business and a particular emphasis on craftsmanship and production.

For supply-chain planners, this is a named training pipeline for production skills, not disclosed manufacturing capacity. No supplier contracts or productivity measures accompanied the figures, and the class does not establish a guaranteed hiring pathway.

How is family succession being handled?

Cucinelli began at a sewing machine, studied tailoring and joined the company at 19. Her father encouraged her to explore other parts of the business, including marketing, communications and development, with a new assignment every few years.

Camilla remains a close partner, while their father acts as mentor to the next generation. Cucinelli said she wants her own son to choose his path freely. She described her father as passing on passion rather than obligation.

After Brunello Cucinelli went public in 2010, the company brought investors to Solomeo to explain its values and strengthen their relationships. That practice turns the family narrative into a capital-relations tool, although the summit offered no investor retention or return data.

What should stakeholders watch next?

Shanghai will test whether the Casa format can translate a humanist proposition into measurable local growth. The school will test whether paid training can replenish specialist labor for the company and its supplier network. Digital teams must show that exploration produces useful client experiences without making AI a substitute for design judgment.

For brands, investors and sourcing teams, the next evidence points are Casa adoption, digital performance and skilled-labor retention, none of which carried disclosed targets in Wuhan.
