Israeli bridal designer Lihi Hod opened her first flagship outside Tel Aviv on Monday, debuting a three-story store in Chelsea's gallery district to coincide with the launch of New York Bridal Fashion Week.
The move marks Hod's first owned-retail presence in a market she describes as one of her strongest. No sales targets, investment figures or store-size specifics beyond the floor count were disclosed. That absence of numbers is worth noting for a company now carrying US fixed costs.
What the store actually is?
The Chelsea space holds three floors, designed by interior decorator Yael Gutreich Oron. The design brief emphasized intimacy: warm wood accents, a creamy palette and olive trees, which Hod said reference her Middle Eastern roots. A wall of black-and-white photographs spans her 16 years in business.
"I want brides to feel that they are not simply entering a store, but stepping into the history of the house," Hod said.
For sourcing and retail professionals, the relevant fact is the operating model. Hod will not run the flagship alone. She co-operates it with Giselle Dubois, founder of the nearby salon Spina Bride, an existing wholesale partner. The structure resembles a joint-venture retail play rather than a solo direct-to-consumer bet, though no contractual details were shared.
"Giselle has an incredible understanding of the New York bride and the luxury bridal retail experience," Hod said.
Why New York, and why now?
Hod trained at Shenkar College in Israel, then spent one year on John Galliano's team at Dior in Paris. She described the stint as brief but decisive.
It "was one of the most formative experiences of my career," she said, "but ultimately, the most important thing I carried with me was the courage to create a world of my own."
Sixteen years after founding her label, that world now includes US retail. Hod credited retail partners, including Spina, for building her American volume. "Opening our first international flagship here feels like both a celebration of how far we've come and the beginning of an entirely new chapter," she said.
The claim deserves scrutiny. "Strongest market" is a marketing framing, not a disclosed revenue split. The company released no US wholesale figures, no store traffic assumptions and no staffing plan.
What else launched alongside the store?
Two product extensions accompanied the opening:
- The fall 2027 bridal collection, dubbed "Odysséey," inspired by 1980s glamour, presented at the store's christening event.
- A debut fragrance blending green tea and orchid blossoms, sold in three formats — perfume, candle and diffuser.
The fragrance launch follows a long luxury playbook. Christian Dior famously pumped Miss Dior through the vents at his debut couture show in 1947. Scent, in other words, is a channel strategy with pedigree.
For a bridal house, home fragrance extends the brand beyond a single-wear purchase. It also adds a new supply chain — fragrance compounding, packaging, US distribution — that the company has not detailed publicly.
What remains unconfirmed?
Several operational questions stay open:
- Whether the flagship carries the full fall 2027 line or a curated assortment.
- The financial arrangement between Hod and Dubois in the co-operation.
- Whether additional US locations or wholesale expansions follow.
The designer framed the opening as a beginning. Whether the Chelsea flagship becomes a profitable anchor or a costly brand statement will depend on execution the announcement does not address.
