Rieter has named Georg Stausberg group CEO with immediate effect. The appointment, announced November 4th, followed a compensation dispute that forced the withdrawal of designated chief executive Daniel Lippuner before he took office.

The Swiss textile machinery group disclosed the breakdown in unusually frank terms. Its board of directors had been confronted with additional demands from Lippuner concerning his compensation package, particularly his bonus arrangements. The company said the resulting differences proved irreconcilable. Lippuner will therefore not take up the position.

The public detail on a failed remuneration negotiation stands out in a sector where leadership transitions are typically framed as planned successions. Rieter gave no figures on the disputed bonus terms and no severance arrangement was disclosed.

Who is Georg Stausberg?

Stausberg arrives from Barmag, where he served as CEO. Barmag ranks among the world's leading suppliers of machinery and systems for man-made fibre production. Stausberg brings more than three decades of experience in the international textile machinery industry, having held a succession of senior management positions at the company.

As CEO, he played a central role in strengthening Barmag's position in the global synthetic fibre machinery market — a segment where spinning capacity investment has concentrated as polyester and other synthetics dominate global fibre output.

His path into Rieter runs through acquisition rather than external search. Rieter completed its acquisition of Barmag in February 2026. Stausberg joined the group's executive committee at that point, giving him direct involvement in the enlarged organisation before this promotion.

That integration record is the operative commercial fact behind the appointment. Rieter now places an established industry figure at the head of the group as it continues to fold Barmag into its operations and strengthen its position across the global textile machinery market.

What does the change signal for machinery buyers?

Rieter said Stausberg's extensive industry expertise and international network made him one of the most prominent leaders in the sector — a marketing claim that buyers can test against his delivery record at Barmag.

For spinning mills and synthetic fibre producers weighing capital equipment orders, the change removes transition uncertainty at the top of a major short-staple and man-made fibre machinery supplier. It also concentrates leadership authority in an executive who already ran the acquired business.

The circumstances of Lippuner's exit carry a governance signal. A board publicly refusing expanded bonus demands, and saying so by name on November 4th, marks a harder line on executive pay than most European machinery groups show in similar situations.

No strategic changes, capacity figures or order targets accompanied the announcement. Rieter has not yet indicated whether Stausberg will adjust the integration timeline for Barmag or revise the group's capital equipment roadmap.

The new CEO takes charge with immediate effect, and the market will watch his first results commentary for evidence of whether the combined group's integration is accelerating under a leader who built half of it.
