Rick Owens has opened a 2,306-square-foot boutique at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., marking the Paris-based label's first and only Orange County location. The store carries the designer's fall 2026 men's and women's ready-to-wear collections, alongside pieces from the home line.

The opening slots Owens into one of the strongest luxury rosters in Southern California. South Coast Plaza already hosts Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Maison Margiela. For a label of Owens' scale, securing an Orange County exclusive in that tenant mix represents a deliberate retail-footprint move rather than a saturation play.

What does the store contain?

The boutique's interior draws directly from the brand's institutional exhibition history. It incorporates concrete prong sculptures previously displayed in the courtyard of the Palais Galliera in Paris as part of "Rick Owens: Temple of Love," a 2025 retrospective covering more than three decades of the designer's work in fashion and design. The transfer of exhibition fixtures into a commercial space signals how the label monetizes its archive and museum validation at the point of sale.

"Those sculptures meant a lot to me in that space and will mean a lot to me in this space now," Rick Owens told WWD.

Why California, and why now?

The location carries personal and commercial weight. Owens grew up in California and founded his namesake label in Los Angeles in the 1990s before relocating to Paris in 2003. The business has since broadened beyond ready-to-wear into footwear, furniture and home design — categories now stocked under one roof in Costa Mesa.

"I am delighted to be part of South Coast Plaza, which represented the best of the best when I was growing up in California," Owens said.

How large is the store network?

The Costa Mesa door joins a selective direct-retail portfolio. In California, the brand already operates a Los Angeles boutique on North La Brea Avenue. Additional U.S. locations sit in New York, Miami and Las Vegas.

The international footprint includes Paris, Milan, Berlin, Ibiza, Dubai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Tokyo. That brings the total network to at least thirteen directly operated boutiques across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

What comes next?

With fall 2026 collections on the floor from day one, the store gives the label a full-price channel in one of the country's highest-grossing luxury malls, and a template for folding retrospective design assets into future retail openings.
