Manolo Blahnik has opened its second mainland China boutique, landing in Shanghai's Plaza 66 on Monday, inside the mall's newly unveiled phase three pavilion expansion. The move comes two years after the U.K.-based luxury footwear house entered mainland China with its first store in 2024.

The Shanghai opening is the brand's second China door in under a year. Beijing followed in January 2026, part of what the company calls "retail expansion in high-growth markets." For a label with only 24 stores worldwide, two mainland doors in two years signals where management sees future volume.

Who built the store, and what is inside?

Chief executive officer Kristina Blahnik, a former architect, directed the design in collaboration with Shanghai-based spatial design specialists BYB Vision. The interior references the brand's Burlington Arcade boutique in London, following its "living room" concept built to resemble a private residence. Beijing-based designer Chen Darui created bespoke furnishings. A sketch wall displays original ink illustrations by Mr. Blahnik.

Product-wise, the boutique carries selected fall 2026 styles plus brand classics including the Maysale, first created for designer Isaac Mizrahi in 1991, and the satin, crystal-embellished Nadira and Hangisi models.

The winter 2026 range, focused on boots, introduces two silhouettes: Ofaralex, a pointed-toe ankle boot with a sculptural contrast heel, and Sonsal, a suede block-heel style.

What did the CEO say?

In a statement, Kristina Blahnik called Shanghai "an incredibly important market" for the brand.

"This new boutique reflects our commitment to creating uniquely crafted spaces that immerse clients in the world of Manolo Blahnik while offering a warm and personal experience," she said. "We are delighted to continue strengthening our presence in the region and look forward to welcoming clients to our new home at Plaza 66."

Standard opening language. What sits behind it is more concrete: a store count, an expansion cadence and a stated preference for directly operated flagships over wholesale dependence.

How healthy is the business behind the expansion?

The August earnings report showed a "challenging" 2025. Revenues reached 83.5 million euros, down 3 percent year-over-year at reported rates and down 1 percent at constant currency. The company blamed the decline chiefly on trouble at its major wholesale partner, Saks Global — a reminder that department-store distress now transmits directly to European luxury suppliers.

The current year reads better, though the evidence is partial. In August the CEO said direct-to-consumer trading was already posting double-digit year-over-year growth. "We see real momentum building and have every confidence in the year ahead," Blahnik said. The company has not published full-year figures to confirm the trend; that claim rests on management's own characterization.

Where does the retail network stand?

As of the August report, Manolo Blahnik operated 24 stores: 14 directly operated flagships and 10 run by franchise partners. New boutiques opened in Miami, Milan and Costa Mesa, Calif., in 2025, with Beijing following in January 2026.

The company says it will keep investing for the "longer term," which it defines as more standalone stores in markets worldwide. Shanghai fits that pattern: a directly controlled flagship in a prime mall, sized to capture a high-growth market rather than another wholesale counter exposed to a partner's problems.
