Pitti Uomo expects 750 brands at its January edition, and Raxxy will anchor them as special guest. The Florence menswear trade show runs Jan. 12 to 15. Raxxy, founded by William Shen, will build an installation showcasing down jackets that blur the lines between fashion, mathematics and sculpture.

Shen is a mathematician by training. The Pitti Uomo team presented the collaboration at a breakfast Thursday morning at Casa Cipriani in New York. Shen drew on his math background to create a collection rooted in "algorithmic thinking," the team said.

Who else joins the lineup?

Shen will not appear alone. Guest designers Simon Holloway of Dunhill and Kartik Kumra of Kartik Research will also show at the January edition. The three names give the fair a mix of a heritage luxury house, a research-driven label and a contemporary designer brand — a spread buyers can evaluate against their own assortment gaps.

The fair has also scheduled a labyrinth installation at the entrance, curated by Edward Buchanan. It serves as a teaser for the 50th anniversary of Pitti Filati, the textile show running Jan. 20 to 22. The installation will highlight the yarn fair's history, linking the menswear event to the company's textile supply chain showcase the following week.

What do the numbers say about the show's reach?

The 750-brand total includes 25 labels from the U.S., a small but strategically positioned slice for American buyers scouting European and international vendors. Some 300 international buyers attended the last edition, a figure organizers will aim to grow as the fair widens its category coverage.

That widening is deliberate. The theme for this edition is "Pitti Goes Wild." Francesca Tacconi, director of special events, said the theme celebrates individuality and the rule-breaking attitude of today's man. The positioning matches the show's commercial evolution: Pitti Uomo has moved beyond its roots in classic menswear to offer buyers contemporary brands, sportswear, accessories, beauty and other categories.

Why does the guest-artist format matter?

For brands and buyers, special-guest installations function as traffic drivers and editorial anchors. Raxxy's math-rooted down jackets give the fair a differentiated talking point in outerwear, a category where technical construction claims increasingly justify price positioning. Whether the installation converts into orders for a young label remains the open question; guest slots guarantee visibility, not sell-through.

The broader calendar logic also matters for sourcing teams. Pitti Uomo (Jan. 12-15), followed by Pitti Filati (Jan. 20-22), compresses a menswear and textile scouting trip into a two-week Florence window, letting buyers move from finished collections at the main fair to yarn and fabric development the following week — a scheduling efficiency that shapes many brands' winter travel plans and early sourcing decisions for the season ahead.
