United Colors of Benetton (UCB) opened five stores in a single day across three Indian states, pushing its national footprint to nearly a thousand doors. The brand, owned by Italy-based Benetton Group, counted 989 locations across 32 states and territories as of February 25, 2026.
The rollout covers Rajasthan, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. Two of the new outlets sit inside Pacific Mall in Jaipur, split by customer segment: one serves adults, the other children. A third Rajasthan store opened in Sikar. In Chhattisgarh, UCB launched at Magneto Mall in Bilaspur. The Patna outlet in Bihar occupies Bailey Square Mall.
All five are mall-based, franchise-operated doors. That model keeps capital expenditure light for the brand while shifting fit-out and lease obligations onto local partners.
Where does the network stand?
Gujarat leads UCB's Indian distribution with 119 locations. Maharashtra follows with 103, then Rajasthan with 83 and Uttar Pradesh with 82. The top ten states by count:
- Gujarat: 119
- Maharashtra: 103
- Rajasthan: 83
- Uttar Pradesh: 82
- Telangana: 59
- Tamil Nadu: 58
- Karnataka: 55
- Delhi: 53
- Kerala: 50
- West Bengal: 47
Rajasthan's 83 existing doors did not deter the brand from adding three more in one day. Jaipur and Sikar sit in that corridor. The Patna and Bilaspur openings push deeper into lower-density states, where Bihar and Chhattisgarh carry no top-ten ranking — a signal that UCB values occupancy cost over footfall scale in those markets.
What was confirmed versus promised?
A company official announced the openings on LinkedIn, crediting internal teams, franchise partners, real estate partners and mall leasing teams. The announcement also indicated further store openings are planned.
That is where confirmation ends. The post named no dates, no locations and no target door count for the next wave. No store sizes, investment figures or lease terms were disclosed either. The 989-door figure predates these five openings, so the network now sits at 994 — just shy of the 1,000-door milestone the brand will likely reach within weeks, though no official target date exists.
Why the split-format strategy?
Separate adult and children's stores at Pacific Mall double the brand's leased footprint in a single mall. The format lets UCB tailor assortment and visual merchandising by segment without blending categories in one larger box. It also means two leases, two fit-outs and two staffing plans where one combined store would need one.
For mall developers, a tenant taking two units in the same property strengthens anchor economics. For franchisees, the split raises the breakeven question: two smaller stores must each clear their own rent hurdle, a risk the LinkedIn announcement did not address.
What comes next?
UCB sells apparel and accessories for men, women and children through its retail network and digital channels in India. The single-day, three-state rollout shows an execution machine that can coordinate franchise partners, mall leasing teams and internal fit-out crews simultaneously.
The unsaid part: same-day openings are a marketing claim as much as an operational one. Sustained expansion into tier-two cities like Sikar and Bilaspur will test whether franchise economics hold where average transaction values run lower than in metro malls, and the brand's next disclosure of door counts and locations will show whether the promised pace continues.
