South Korean apparel manufacturer ShinWon Corporation has gone live with Sphere, an integrated enterprise resource planning system that connects its Seoul headquarters with overseas manufacturing subsidiaries on a single set of processes and data standards.
Sphere pulls together product lifecycle management, supplier relationship management, manufacturing execution, e-accounting and SAP Analytics Cloud. It spans the full production cycle: order management, sample development, costing, sourcing, procurement, production, logistics, shipment and settlement.
What changes on the factory floor?
The system replaces workflows previously run through spreadsheets, emails and standalone applications. ShinWon reports standardised business processes across operations and improved data consistency at product level, allowing more systematic management of bills of materials and production processes for individual garment styles.
The MES-to-ERP link is the operationally significant piece. It lets ShinWon track production status and costs more effectively and identify and respond to manufacturing issues faster — a direct lead-time and cost-control lever for brands sourcing from the company.
On the analytics side, SAP Analytics Cloud gives ShinWon cross-subsidiary views of orders, production and costs, broken down by customer and product. The company expects this to support profitability analysis beyond conventional reporting, sharpening decisions on which styles and accounts earn money.
How does Sphere fit ShinWon's AI plans?
Sphere is positioned as the data foundation for a phased AI rollout. ShinWon has already set up a dedicated AI organisation and adopted ChatGPT Enterprise, with early work on repetitive task automation and data analytics.
Projects under consideration include:
- An in-house AI demand forecasting system using sales data from major retailers
- Expanded forecast variables: weather conditions, geographic regions and promotional periods
- Automation of repetitive administration, including preparation and verification of export declarations, using ERP data and AI
The company frames these as intentions built on the new platform, not measured results; no implementation timeline or volume targets were disclosed, and ShinWon has not said what the Sphere programme cost or which subsidiaries cut over first.
What the CEO said
"Through Sphere, we have established a unified framework that connects our business operations and data, laying the foundation for AI integration," said JJ Park, CEO of ShinWon Corporation.
"We will continue to expand AI applications across our operations to enhance global supply chain visibility, improve operational efficiency and strengthen our manufacturing competitiveness through data-driven innovation," Park said.
Why it matters for sourcing teams
For buyers, the practical implications are standardised data across ShinWon's plants, faster flagging of production problems and clearer per-style cost visibility — capabilities that compress decision cycles when disruptions hit. Export-document automation, if delivered, could trim administrative lead time on cross-border shipments.
ShinWon has not quantified expected efficiency gains, and the demand forecasting system remains at the exploration stage. The company says it will continue expanding AI applications across its operations on the Sphere foundation.
