Shein Posts 55.6% Drop in H1 Adjusted Net Profit as EU Fees Bite

Shein's first earnings report as a public company showed a 55.6% drop in adjusted net profit to $499M on EU fees and a slowing 1% revenue rise to $20.1B. Chairman SKy Xu pointed to ASP growth, not supplier price cuts, as the path forward.

Shein reported first-half adjusted net profit of $499 million, a 55.6% year-on-year decline, alongside a 52.9% drop in operating profit to $493 million in its first earnings release as a London-listed company.

Net revenue for the six months ended June 30 rose just 1% to $20.1 billion. The Singapore-headquartered platform is no longer converting order scale into margin, a shift that will reshape cost conversations with its supplier base.

What does the order book look like?

  • Total orders: 549 million, up 6.4% year-on-year
  • Active customers (12 months to June 30): 291 million, up from 254 million
  • Net revenue growth: 1%

The gap between low-single-digit revenue growth and mid-single-digit order growth points to continued price compression at the unit level.

Chairman and founder SKy Xu acknowledged a deliberate pivot. "As the product mix shifts toward brands at higher price points, the platform's overall average selling price will rise accordingly," Xu wrote in his outlook covering the next one to two years.

Which markets are under the most pressure?

By region, Shein's second-quarter results showed a 6% US revenue decline to $2.47 billion and a 13% European drop to $3.77 billion. Both markets absorbed new fee structures in the back half of the period.

A 3-euro per-parcel surcharge on low-value imports took effect across the EU on July 1. France's ultra-fast-fashion levy followed on Sept. 1. The company flagged both items as expected second-half headwinds to operating margin.

How does Shein plan to defend unit economics?

Xu framed the one-to-two-year strategy around pricing, quality and compliance rather than lower factory prices. "Our competitive advantage stems from the efficiency gains of high inventory turnover, rather than cost compression at the individual product level," he wrote.

That message matters for sourcing partners in China, Vietnam, Indonesia and beyond. Shein's traditional pitch to suppliers has been order velocity against thin per-unit returns. The new framing puts more weight on faster sell-through, third-party brand onboarding and average-selling-price lift than on FOB negotiation.

What did the market do?

Shares fell 9.2% on Tuesday morning to a record low, valuing Shein at $17.3 billion. That sits roughly one-third below the $26 billion mark reached at its Sept. 1 listing.

What should sourcing teams watch next?

The print carries three signals for apparel supply-chain executives.

First, EU and UK compliance spend is now a stated priority alongside the inventory turnover push, implying structural cost additions on inbound logistics, product testing and customs documentation.

Second, the platform's preference for ASP uplift over supplier price compression has moved from press line to filed policy. Tier-1 and tier-2 factories should expect flat-to-downward pricing pressure even as order counts climb.

Third, the 14.6% rise in active customers to 291 million shows marketplace reach still expanding while profitability resets, leaving second-half volumes as the swing variable.

Second-half results will test whether that mix shift, the new European fees and the rising compliance overhead still leave room for the unit-economics recovery management is signalling.
