Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL) grew profit after tax 15% year-on-year to Rs 54 crore (US $5.7 million) in Q2 FY27, outpacing a 5% revenue rise that management blamed on festive demand shifting into the next quarter.

Revenue from operations reached Rs 373 crore (US $39.3 million) in the quarter, up from Rs 354 crore (US $37.3 million) in Q2 FY26. EBITDA increased 12% to Rs 80 crore (US $8.4 million), against Rs 71 crore a year earlier.

What drove the margin expansion?

Gross profit rose 7% to Rs 160 crore (US $16.9 million), from Rs 149 crore in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin stood at 43%, up from 42%. EBITDA margin improved to 21% from 20%. PAT margin moved to 14% from 13%.

The gains came despite softer top-line growth. Management attributed the revenue pace to calendar timing, not demand weakness.

"Q2 FY27 remained resilient despite a challenging external environment," said Hemant Jain, Joint Managing Director. He noted that the shift of key festive occasions, including Navratri and Durga Puja, from September to October resulted in some anticipated festive demand moving into Q3 FY27.

That timing point matters for vendors and buyers tracking order flow. Demand deferred into Q3 FY27 should reappear in the December-quarter numbers rather than disappear.

How did H1 FY27 perform?

First-half results showed faster growth than the quarter alone. Revenue from operations climbed 11% to Rs 652 crore (US $68.7 million), from Rs 588 crore (US $62 million) in H1 FY26.

  • Gross profit: up 13% to Rs 280 crore (US $29.5 million), from Rs 248 crore
  • EBITDA: up 19% to Rs 133 crore (US $14 million), from Rs 113 crore
  • PAT: up 19% to Rs 94 crore (US $9.9 million), from Rs 79 crore

Half-year margins tracked the quarterly pattern. EBITDA margin improved to 20% from 19%. PAT margin reached 14% against 13%. Gross margin held at 43%, compared with 42%.

Operating leverage is working. Profit lines are growing roughly twice as fast as revenue across the half.

Which brands and channels carried the quarter?

The company highlighted its women's apparel brand Kraus, which recorded sales growth alongside strong EBITDA margins. KKCL did not disclose separate figures for the brand.

The portfolio spans Killer, Integriti, Lawman, Easies, Junior Killer and Kraus. The company runs an integrated model covering design, manufacturing, branding and retailing.

Distribution at the reporting period stood at:

  • 675 exclusive brand outlets
  • More than 80 distributors
  • Coverage of over 3,000 multi-brand outlets across India
  • Presence in national chain stores

What comes next?

Jain said the company remained focused on growth, profitability and operational discipline, and that its balance sheet provided a strong foundation to navigate the evolving market environment. The test arrives with Q3 FY27 results, which should capture the festive demand that slipped out of the September quarter.
