Bealls will air its first national advertising campaign this holiday season, with the Bradenton, Florida-based off-price retailer crossing a 650-store footprint across 23 states under the Bealls, Home Centric and Bealls Florida banners.
The privately held company, self-described as the fourth-largest U.S. off-price operator, launched the "For the Haul of It" platform ahead of the gifting window. The creative positions the chain around the off-price discovery model while withholding the names of carried brands.
What is the campaign built on?
Senior vice president of marketing Leana Less leads the rollout. The campaign carries a holiday-themed evolution — "Happy Haul-idays" — built around a sing-along riff on "Jingle Bells" that trades on a pronunciation twist: the store name is pronounced "bells." Additional creative phases will run through the year, the company said.
The unnamed-brand approach echoes standard off-price practice, preserving the treasure-hunt experience and shielding vendor relationships from public visibility.
"Bealls has built a loyal following among shoppers who enjoy discovering name brands, unexpected finds and exceptional value," Less said. "As we continue to enter new communities across the country, we want to introduce more people to what makes us special."
How does the chain compare with major off-price peers?
Bealls claims the fourth position among U.S. off-price retailers, behind three larger publicly traded chains in the segment. Bealls has not disclosed annual revenue or comparable-store metrics, leaving private-company scale comparisons opaque. By store count alone, the chain trails all three.
How does the banner structure complicate the push?
Bealls operates three storefront formats under one corporate parent: Bealls, Bealls Florida and Home Centric. A national media buy will reach audiences with distinct assortments across the three formats, complicating media planning and inventory forecasting. Whether the campaign treats the formats as one brand or three remains unclear.
What does a national media buy change for sourcing and operations?
A shift from regional to national media has direct implications for the buying organization:
- Marketing overhead rises against a category that typically caps ad spend to protect margin
- New-market awareness must convert without the long local-brand-equity tail that regional operators rely on
- Vendor allocation, exclusivity windows and replenishment cadence become more visible performance metrics
- Private-label and closeout buying programs may face new pressure as the chain pushes into states outside its Florida core
For supplier partners, a larger, more public Bealls footprint raises the cost of allocation missteps, replenishment gaps and pricing inconsistencies across stores.
What is the loyalty and mobile-app component?
Bealls simultaneously introduced a mobile app targeting three functions:
- Customer loyalty enrollment
- New-customer acquisition
- Ongoing customer connection
The retailer disclosed no app launch date, technology platform, technology partner or financial targets tied to download or retention metrics.
What remains undisclosed?
- Campaign budget and media mix
- 2025-2026 store opening targets
- App download or conversion benchmarks
- Vendor mix or private-label penetration
Less framed the effort in qualitative terms: "'For the Haul of It' is designed to make the Bealls brand more visible, more memorable and more relevant. We want more people to see us, recognize us, remember us and ultimately visit us. Marketing creates the reason to come, and our stores create the reason to return."
The chain's next test will be translating national awareness into measurable store-level gains in markets where the three larger off-price peers already hold shelf-space and customer-recognition advantages.
